1. Summary

This product bulletin announces the availability of SnapDrive v3.0 for UNIX, part of the NetApp Manageability Family Server Suite, for First Customer Ship.

SnapDrive for UNIX provides simplified storage management, reduces operational costs, and improves storage efficiency. It automates storage provisioning tasks and simplifies the process of creating host-consistent data Snapshot™ copies. It provides the capability to traverse the host storage stack and perform the right tasks required for streamlined storage creation and error-free, consistent data Snapshot copy creation.

2. What’s New

  • Veritas™ Storage Foundation support for AIX and HP-UX
    • Support is extended to Veritas Storage Foundation in addition to existing Native stack support on AIX and HP-UX platforms, thus covering wide range of customer deployments on AIX and HP-UX platforms.
    • HP-UX: Support included for Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 Maintenance Package 1 (MP1) (Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Dynamic Multipathing, and Veritas file system). Each of these features is supported with HP-UX 11i v1 and HP-UX 11i v2 on PA-RISC and Itanium server platforms.
    • AIX: Support included for Veritas Storage Foundation 4.0 Maintenance Package 4 (MP4) (Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Dynamic Multipathing, and Veritas file system). Each of these features is supported with AIX 5.2 and AIX 5.3.
  • Support for AIX Native MPIO
    • Support is extended to Native MPIO in addition to existing SANpath and new Veritas Dynamic Multipathing solutions.
  • MultiStore® (vFiler™) Support
    • All SnapDrive operations on iSCSI and NFS are now supported on NetApp MultiStore.
    • Support requires Data ONTAP® 7.2.2 or above.
  • LUN Clone split
    • Allows the customer to create permanent clones from SnapDrive Snapshot copies.
  • Secure Communication to Storage system (HTTPS) by default
    • Enables secure communication between SnapDrive host and Storage system by default on Solaris™, AIX, and Linux® platforms. On HP-UX, SnapDrive supports only HTTP to communicate to Storage system.
